Default Anyone using BT internet ? New home hub 4.

I'm with BT using infinity, the internet had been playing up for a while, it was disconnecting at random so i gave them a quick call to explain the problem.

They were very good and helpful to be honest, the lady suggested replacing the hub/router and said she would arrange for a new one to be sent out which could take upto 3 days to arrive, it arrived the next day.

The first thing i noticed is the hub was different, it looks more like a throw back to the 80's compared to the previous one, apparently its the latest home hub 4 which has just been released by BT to replace the home hub 3.

Not sure what its going to do better, if anything or what extra features it has. here is a pic i found of it on the net with some info.

£109 lol, just ring up and say you have a problem and you have eliminated everything else apart from the hub which you think is at fault. Glad i had a problem with the previous router if this turns out to be better, time will tell on that front.

be interesting to see what improvement this has over the old BTHH3

I too am on Infintiy and the HH3 is a bit crap.

See that BT have not built in any future improvements like the forthcoming 802.11ac

Hope its better for you. Not convinced with my HH3 especially with the wireless. I think it struggles sometimes when you have more than 1 wireless device accessing the HH3.
Me personally would just ditch the BT equipment and go with a Draytek all in one router and MODEM. But if you got it for free then you cant really complain

Just spend £20 on a gigabit switch and add 8 more

Having to use yet another gigabit switch is a PITA though if they spent a few pennies more on putting gigabit ports on it. Similar nonsense on the Homehub 3 which I'm using to supply wireless to my kitchen, bedroom, dining room means that the only gigabit port is used to link to a gigabit switch next to my Homehub 2 which is doing ADSL and DHCP. So every time I want to plug something gigabit into a Homehub I need a gigabit switch as well as a Homehub.

My exchange doesn't have LLU so I've just recontracted with BT for broadband, but don't get a new Homehub 4 anyway. Last time I got the Homehub 3 for free (after they tried to charge £46 which I hadn't agreed to) and that was the only reason I got the worthless piece of rubbish and all it is useful for is as a wireless access point to me.

Another +1 for Asus routers here, I bought an Asus RT-N66U a couple of months ago and it's solved all my issues with signal strength and reliability.

I always buy from overclockers due to customer service, rma and free postage as a forum member.

Its been in for around 3 weeks now and touch wood everything has been very stable, ive not had one noticeable dropout and the speeds seem to be very good and consistent. Were on the upto 76mb infinity deal, the results below are over wi-fi to an upstairs pc, the BT Home Hub 4 is downstairs.

For business users we do exactly this, but more for Infinity than anything else. We use 3200 routers than interface directly with the Huawei box BT slap on the wall, taking the mildly iffy HH/BH3 out of the equation. For BT ADSL customers we use the same router but run the HH3 in as close to bridge-like configuration as possible.

Vigor 2955 units interface well with Infinity too but aren't silent like the 3200 series.

Did yours arrive, if so is it setup and tested ?

Another random one i did the other day using the Home Hub 4, so far ive been more than happy with it compared to the Home Hub 3 which was terrible.

This ^

I'm on BT Infinity albeit resold by PlusNet. Don't get a HomeHub if you buy through PlusNet, instead I got the usual BT OpenReach modem when the bloke installed it and a Netgear N150 router from PlusNet. The Netgear was okay but have since upgraded to the Asus for 5GHz etc.

Asus routers are hard to beat at the moment. http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwa...er-charts/view

I wouldn't bother with 802.11ac for now as the technology isn't mature enough yet.
