Connecting to NTLWorld thru NT4.0
#1
As an NTL phone/TV customer (analogue), we've had no problems connecting to the local rate NTLWorld service from Windows95. I quickly gave up using their software, and setup a Dial-Up Networking connection by simply copying all the settings across. This worked fine.
However, when I try to do this under NT4.0, the dial-up appears to work OK, but my browser fails to find anything.
Any suggestions?

It could that the DNS lookup is not configured, if I remember correctly DNS configuration has to be entered manually.
Establish a dial-up connection, and try the following:
1. Open a command prompt
2. Type the following: nslookup www.ntl.com
The nslookup command should resolve www.ntl.com to the IP Address 62.253.165.47.
If nslookup fails try to confirm that a valid connection has been established, again from the command prompt type:
ping 62.252.165.47
If the ping works, and the nslookup fails, you will need to modify the DNS settings for the dial-up connection.
For NTL:
Primary DNS: 194.168.4.100
Secondard DNS: 194.168.8.100
If ping fails then there is something else wrong with the connections configuration.
Apart from this, once the configuration is sorted, you should experience no problems using NT4 instead of NTLs software (not sure it supports NT4 anyway). I have used NTL with NT4.0 and Windows 2000 without any problems.
Hope this helps.
