Default Signal Booster?

I have a desktop PC with router plugged in in my office (smart shed ) at the top of my garden about 25m from our old cottage (stone walls).

I can't get a decent Internet connection in the house even though I have placed router near window so it is roughly directed towards windows in house - I assume signal will object to stone walls.

I Googled "Booster" and got plenty of solutions but can anyone suggest the best way forward at reasonable cost. Note I do not want Ethernet cable running across my garden. I phoned up my ISP who provided the router (Plusnet) but they weren't much help.

Thanks, David

What you may want to try is a directional external aerial.

I actually made a pair as a experiment with our offices at work before putting through a wired connection....it involved using two pringle tubes. And belive it or not worked very well! I still went wired though, as the WiFi link was a temporary fix.

Not sure how you'd connect a external aerial up to a MIMO type router though.

The main problem is the transmission power of most wifi routers and adpaters is limited to 100mW. So inorder to get the best signal you need to direct it to where you need it the signal to go. But as alternative, there are some hacks to certain brands of router which allow you to increase this power level above 100mW. I know this can be done on some Asus WiFi routers, which is handy.

I went wired, but I did use Homeplug AV 500 devices for a while and they work even across different circuits on different distribution boards but on the same electric meter.

Will the router take an external aerial ?

I have a static caravan in France with wifi across the site, the only thing i could do to get a decent signal was to get a big aerial and point it straight at one of the masts.

It cost a few quid, but went from pretty much no signal to full strength, so no complaints,

Thanks a lot guys. John B's post was particularly interesting as I had dismissed this plan as office on different circuit.
