Boring yes, sad maybe, but we need some replacement switchboxes for our server room. We used to have Cybex Commanders but one blew up and they cost about £500 for an 8 port replacement.

I have been looking at the Belkin Omniview 16 port USB models. Any body use them? Are they any good?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks
Darren

We have had bother with the 8-port Belkin switches, basically after a couple of days you lose the mouse Which, although it's not a big problem, it is a pain. A reboot of the affected box in question fixes the problem. We use either Cybex or Compaq switches with no problems - all the Belkin switches have been removed

Interestingly when I was across at our headquarters in the USA, the guys there had exactly the same problem with "mouse loss" and have done the same.

Thanks, any other views anyone?

The Cybex units are great, but when we bought them (2 years ago) they were well over £1000 each. The Belkin units look great and are far cheaper than any other units including Better Box, Black Box.

I've used a 4 port one for the last 2 yrs, no probs whatsoever.
Use a 16 port one at work.. no probs either..

seem to be pretty good, but I've seen unbranded 4 port ones with 4 cable kits etc going for under £30 inc vat!!

Depends on how many machines you need to connect up

We have about 25 servers in total in the server room, all of which need to be connected to a switch box.

It is most likely that we will end up buying 3 x 16 port models for now. They don't seem so bad but I never used any other make apart from Cybex.
