asus p8z77 v (varies around 125-145)
intel i5 3570k (varies around £165 - £179)
amd 7870 or a gtx 660 .. (£175 ish)
would also sell the mobo ram on fleabay and use the money to buy somenew ram, whist i know your board is ddr3 would be mad not to get some new faster memory to go in it ..
should be able to get that lot for around £500.
or use a lower spec asus board like a p8z77-lx .. the v is better for overclocking, hence the 3570k be rude not to. might need an aftermarket cooler if you want to overclock it though. corsair hydro £78 or a noctua d14 at £65 ...

this card gets v good reviews, but i might need to increase my budget?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=GX-098-GI
it would be nice if there was a extra slot for a graphics card incase i want to run with 2 in the future, and good OC on the mother B

Hi Ian
Personally I would go down the route this spec
MB: Asus P6T SE
CPU: i7-920 D0(easy to overclock up to 4.0GHz on air with Arctic Cooler Freezer 13)
CPU Cooler:Arctic Cooler Freezer 13,Noctua or Corasir H60-Great cooler for not too much money)
RAM: 12GB should be enough
GPU: HD5870 or HD5970(those cards you should be able get now cheap)
Don't forget on the SSD for OS and games

Well if you're going over budget ...
I'd be looking at something like ...
Processor: i5-3570K OEM (no CPU fan) - Ebuyer.co.uk £167
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LE Plus - Aria.co.uk £110
Memory: 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengance 1866Mhz - Aria £50
CPU Cooler: Artic Cooling Freezer 13 Pro - Aria £27
Case fan: Artic Cooling F12 Pro PWM - Ebuyer £6
Graphics Card: Asus GeForce GTX 660 DirectCU II OC 2048MB - Aria £195
Around £550 the lot.
- Asus () compatability throughout
- i5-3570k is probably the best price/performance processor on the market. The two I've built with cruise through anything we throw at them.
- M/board comes with an easy overclooking utility that takes the i5-3570K speed up 20-25% comfortably
- You can overclock the graphics card as well
- M/board supports SLI/Crossfire so you can add a 2nd GTX 660 graphics card when your budget allows.
And use you old case - a new case won't make your rig run any faster!

Get a Z68 mobo that supports SLI / Crossfire and dont worry too much about processor and ram, keep to something a little older with 8gb of ram (or 4 if running a 32bit OS as it cant see or use any more than that) and spend the bulk on the GPU as your going to want 60+FPS @ 1080P and 90% of stuff out there is almost exclusively processed via the GPU with the CPU just working the control lines.
As an example, in BF3 at 5760x1080, a tad short of 200FPS from the GPUs, running at 120hz on 3x24" monitors, I don't think I ever see my CPU exceed 20% from memory.
Not sure, will test later and fire up a screenshot. .

Have a good look at www.scan.co.uk. On their front page they have overclocked bundles which have CPU, motherboard and RAM. I have got all my computer parts from them over the last 9 years with no problem.

Their "today only" prices are usually good discounts too

I use scan too, almost exclusively and luckily only live 40mins away so often use the Q-Collect feature which works damn well.

I'm replacing my Q6600 Quad-Core and want something similar.
I've spec'd out this, any comments? I don't really want to spend more than £600...

If your not confident about building your own i'd look for a system that someone has already built and is selling, these enthusiats are upgrading all the time and are looking for the latest case and technology etc so you can pick up a bargain if you know what your looking for, make sure its got all the receipts for warranty etc and they have come from a reputable retailer.
When you build a computer you your getting a lot better components than you get from a high street shop, japanese capacitors etc and better CPU and GPU's and better most things really especially the power supplies, the only problem though when you come to sell it is you lose money so you can take advantage of that if you know where to look and you know what your looking for.
