Default bought a nexus 7 and its great!

I have had an ipad (1) since not long after they came out, liked it used it but never 100% happy, it was too expensive and the browser was pants. email program was not great and no proper google apps available for it (gmail/maps etc)

Sent wifey to get me a nexus 7 32gb for £179 and its great! not too big, fast, better wifi coverage (no idea why?) proper browser, proper gmail, proper youtube and lots of settings to change, I think it may warrant 5/5

When i first unpacked it, it ran slightly laggy but then 2 updates installed and now its super snappy! I am not sure if it was laggy because it was downloading apps, i did not realise that if you have an android phone and an android tablet all of your apps are automatically downloaded to both so this may have been the problem I am not sure.

if you are thinking about one, just go and get it, I think its going to be one of this years best christmas sellers, the only thing which may cause it problems is amazon is not stocking it properly.

Before you do anything else ..Root it ....

Otherwise you'll have to reinstall everything when you do, and believe me you will!!!

Whats on Mine...

N64 Emulator

Psone Emulator

Amiga Emulator

Amstrad Emulator

Mame

if rooted, you can pair a PS3 six axis joystick and use that on the games

Look for Dark meadow (free)

Dead Trigger free also

Plague inc

Not to mention kindle, media streaming, winamp etc

I have all those emulators on my phone and have most games for all of them and guess which ones I play, yeah none of them as I play the android games. The N64 games look good and the psone games are soso and take up far too much space for what they are. Nes games are great same with Snes,Megadrive and Gamebot advance but I have far too many so don't really play them.

I used to have a chipped xbox360 and had/have about 300 games for it but I could never play a game as |I had far too many as you would put a game on and not like it then repeat and in the finish you would be that sick you would not play any games.

Thats what happens with all the games I have on my phone with the emulators, too many games

They are great and I do recommend them, but I had to find a Youtube video to explain how to get the orientation to change, why is it stuck in Portrait out of the box and why is it so hard to find the setting.

Mart sums it up, it's great, but you need to make it a hobby to get it to do simple tasks. I'll be paying the extra for the Apple product this Christmas, don't want to spend my holidays searching youtube for support.

Or just be an 11 year old. I guarantee he has it fully functional by the time we are tucking into Christmas dinner.

swipe down, press rotate? maybe the new ones are different, because you can not get much simpler? you can also add a direct link to lock unlock on any screen if wanted.

I would think that the secret ipad/iphone menu is much more hidden (quick double click of button) no one I have shown knew about it including a 17 year old!

Nope. You need an app to rotate the home screen.

Rotate has been unlocked out of the box with the latest update.

developer settings have been hidden though ,

Finding them is a bit of an easter egg though

With any of the new stuff from any manufacturers, its a constant trade off between features / functions and cost.

With every new upgrade theres always somthing missing or changed.

In Androids defense, you dont like an updgrade, you can go back

My mate has 2 ipads one has been updated, and lost the multi tab view ,

The other, his nipper is refusing to update because he likes that option and

dosent want to loose it.

Android changed the front page on Jellybean, ive allready got shot of it

and gone back to the old look

There are always some who will be happy, and others who wont be.

Either way there fun to use

I keep looking at them. Very tempted.

Can you get cases with keyboards for them?

I've just bought the same for £179 and think it's great (already got an ipad2 )

What does anyone recommend for syncing android with a pc for things such as Outlook calendar and contacts etc as well as internet favourites and music?

Also want to get a windscreen car mount for it to use as a media player for the kids and gps navigation for me (my car has a built in one but it's cr4p/out of date compared to google maps or navfree app).

not sure on the syncing, not used outlook for years!

if you have an android phone its pretty impressive, make sure you login in with the same google account, it installs all of your apps, wifi settings, password etc i was amazed

I too have been researching for a tablet for home and this seems to tick all boxes. I colleague at work likes his gadgets and technology an he went for this over the rest even though he already had a 10" Asus bought last year. He know bought the nexus 7 and says its excellent very compact and easier to carry around the house and use unlike the 10" versions which are slightly more chunky to carry. I think this will be my Christmas present for sure. I've asked the question between this and the kindle hd fire and the feedback was get the nexus. And the price is not bad at all

Stuck between getting the 7" or 10" version. Will be used as a browser at home, you tube, ebay etc. Like the idea of compatibility with all android devices I have and Gmail. The 7" is winning as it's more portable but the 10" keeping popping up as I'm dubious I would regret it if I don't get it later down the line.

Yeah, I think the bigger model would be better.

I'm kind of waiting on the price dropping for the January sales push.

That was my train of thought but the 7" is just so portable I know a 10" tablet isn't exactly massive but I'm just so stuck I am two minds.

I did think of waiting to see what happens in January but I honestly can't see there being a price drop as they are so popular, on Google most models are out of stock!!!

Yeah, but that's just because of Christmas.

When the sales figure plummet next week, I think we'll see a few offers knocking around

For home use I would go with the 10", and for portable use the 7".

I had the same dilemma, and in the end opted for a 7" 3G for use on the train as it fits comfortably into a jacket pocket. Should I later decide I want a larger device for use at home I'll get a 10" then.
