Hi all, Im after some advice. Is there a maximum length that you can have for IDE cables ?? odd question im sure your thinking, but im thinking of putting my pc case in a remote location (loft directly above bedroom) and obviously still want access to cdrom etc hence length of IDE cable, i guestimate that around 3 metres will be needed.

Any help gratefully recieved

Thumbs down

No chance. IDE needs to be below about 18"-ish. UltraDMA can work over slighly longer lengths, but nothing like 3m.

LVD SCSI will do 12.5m ( multidrop ) or 25m (single drop)

muchos expensive for what you want though.

If its just the CD - Why not get an External USB CD Drive ? USB standard is for 5m.
