Yes, if you have Windows 95, this may work

Messing around with sysedit won't make a noticeable difference what so ever.

not relevant to Win7/vista

Win7 actually does a pretty good job at managing its memory

Are you running the application in compatibility mode? They also won't work if you have 64bit Win 7, you will need an emulator or run a virtual machine.

I have made this change to my girls laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.
It is faster.
Try it and make a comparison.
I also have set my virtual memory to zero .
GOTO
Windows pause
Advance system settings
advanced tab
settings
performance options
Settings
advanced
under virtual memory - change
uncheck Automatically manage file change size for all files
check No paging file
click set and exit

RAM is now forced to be used for all process's

Yep I did, made no noticeable difference. I'm on win7 64 ultimate. I guess it depends on how fast your rig and ram is.

Thing is how can it make a noticeable difference for you when it only affects 16bit apps.

Also the only time you shouldn't use a paging file is when you have 8gig of ram or more.

Memory controllers are alot more efficient than they use to be, really that wont make any difference in the speed to which the memory will run, using the settings in windows will improve things though, as you seemed to have found out

<pagefile-Off>

I have just installed a new game/heavy application, why does my screen keep going black?

Disabling the page file in Win7 will put you at a disadvantage performance wise because it uses a caching mechanism called super fetch, it will just lead to system crashes, you also limit your session to how ever much RAM you have installed, it is a pointless exercise 99.9% of the time.

If you want a performance increase put the page file on another SSD and has already been noted, Win7 doesn't have a 16bit sub system, so the other tip is pointless also.

Setting the page file to a set size (somewhere between equal to double your RAM) helps - especially with conventional disks where fragmentation can occur.

No it doesn't, it can not help, there are only negatives to using a set size pagefile.
