What are the Operating Systems ?
If 98/ME have you done:
Click Start , point to Settings , click Control Panel , and then double-click Add/Remove Programs .
On the Windows Setup tab, double-click Internet Tools .
Click to select the Internet Connection Sharing check box, and then click OK .
Click OK , and then follow the instructions on the screen to run the Internet Connection Sharing wizard.

can i just thank you guys for your help... specially you Ian.. you was a great support techy on msn messenger
found out the problem is aol..... looked in their help section and it states clearly that you CAN set up a home network of up to 7 computers using one primary connection through aol... so.... phoned aol... spoke to 3 of their tech monkeys.. i mean people... not one could help, 2 were very rude, one said yes it can be done but i am not trained to know how to do it as aol do not support sharing!!!
so rang to cancel account.. they gave us a month free and said yes its poss to do home network but you must go through the microsoft page.... so... we did this... still it dosnt work... we have now tried ALL we can think of and are totally frustrated with the whole thing.... what should of taken about 20mins has now taken 4 days
if anyone has tried to do this on aol.... how???
other then that we are taking their free time and looking for another isp... cos aol stinks

When I did this had a few problems, I found that the IP address of the computer with the internet connection must be 192.168.0.1 and the other computers must be in the same range e.g. 192.168.0.2 otherwise it will not work.
Hope this helps.

we did everything totally right... ask IanW
found out it's the aol software that prevents ICS working cos they have their own version of ICS...but their monkeys in tech support have no idea how to set it up themselves, and will only say that AOL will not support sharing, even though it's written in black and white in the help directory.
So bang goes that account that they had for nearly 12 months

Oh well
To be honest I doubt if the ISP is the issue, as ICS's job is to sort that for you.
The only other thing I can remember is your computer using the shared connection needs to have it Connect using LAN set in your Internet connection properties.
Also, in your TCP/IP settings on the computer using the shared connection, it would look something like this
IP address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.0.1 (as that is the IP address of your computer with the internet connection, BTW this step is crucial).
I think once I'd set all that it burst into life (and still works to this day). I'd send you screen shots but the PC that shares the connection runs NT.
That's all I can remember, as it was a wee while ago I did it
