Default Swapping xbox drives

Does anyone have any experience with this? My xbox laser has died on me, it's a liteon drive. I also have a spare drive from my old xbox that rrod on me however it's a hitachi drive. Is it possible to dump the keys from the liteon drive to the hitachi?

I have looked on the net and have read various conflicting reports.

This is the guide I used

http://www.gamerwok.com/main/2008/12...ns-editio.html

You can only use specific drives, though. Also, mine was an old-style Xbox (not the new design).... good luck!

Ah - sorry. I see you mean optical drive, rather than hard disk.....

No experience of this, sorry.

I think some drives can be spoofed to make the Xbox think it's a different one, but I'm unsure of which ones. Swapping the laser is pretty easy though on a fat model, I did mine recently. New laser is cheap as well.

I ended up buying a replacement drive off ebay after farting around trying to spoof my liteon key to my old samsung drive. After hours of faffing around I realised it wont work if you are on the latest dashboard.

Still at least I have the key ready to stick on the new drive.

Do you have much experience with jungle flasher? not sure if I actually flashed the key to the drive. Hopefully flashing to another lite on will be more straightforward.

Yeah it should be. I've only ever swapped like for like with dvd drives using jungler flasher. Never tried it on a slim tho and haven't done it for a couple of years so dunno what effect new microsoft developments have had.

Are you sure you got the key? You normally need a probe to get the key off a liteon.

I have a dummy, identify, inquiry and key file so I'm guessing that's all I need?. I extracted it using the hillbilly method (home made probe earthed to the chassis). I had to get an old pc down from the loft as my new pc would not recognise the drive.

The time I spent messing around with it would have been better spent working to buy a new xbox

Fortunately with the psn 4.11 spoofer I have at least had my 3.55 ps3 online this weekend.
