Hi,

Having installed a new Sound Card (SB PCI128) , I have problems with my sound. For example, when I play an Audio CD I get NO SOUND at all. When i run Soldier of Fortune sounds is OK but crackles sometimes. It's the same on Return to Castle Wolfenstein. On Half Life I get NO SOUND at all.

Please help. I've tried a few things. Have disabled any other sound devices.

My setup is Athlon 800 with Geforce 2 and 384 Meg of ram.

Cheers,

Gamm

Cool

Does device manager report all as ok?
Did you remove the software/driver for your old card?
Can you test the card in another pc?

Check your motherboard as well, upgrade all your drivers (can't hurt). I had similar problem with previous computer (AThlon 500)
and I think it was the video driver that was the culprit (?).
I used Detonator (Nvidia) drivers since then.

have you got the audio cable from the cdrom to the soundcard? that would explain the "no sound" when playing audio cd.

Wink

Definately need to connect up the cable from the CDRom drive to the soundcard first for CD Audio

Mine used to crackle on some games too, that's why I bought an SB Live Platinum Get the latest drivers and latest Direct X. Make sure its not installed in a slot next to your graphics card and it will be a bit () better.
