Windows or Mac?

For Mac I use transmission which is quite lightweight.

I used to use uTorrent but it's quite resource hungry from what I can remember.

You can select individual files in uTorrent. Have you double clicked/right clicked the torrent? When you see the detailed view at the bottom of the window you can select the tabs and on one of them you see the files that make up the torrent. From there you can then choose to prioritise certain files and/or not download others.

Hope that helps

I use an old version of uTorrent, found the newer versions far too 'heavy'.

Depends on the site I'm using. 95% of the time it is Vuze. The other 5% it is an older version of uTorrent as the site being used has very strict requirements about which clients can be used.

I just use utorrent now. Tried BitTorrent and Vuze (Formerly Azureus) but I just prefer utorrent plus some clients block some of the others.

He isn't using .torrents though, he is using Magnet links which do not have files associated with them, just meta data, so it doesn't matter what client he is using and on what platform, he would still need to get that data before selecting individual files.
