Default Samsung Galaxy S3

Is going to be announced later today (7pm), anyone else waiting for this? The S2 was/is good, but I'm not keen on the TouchWiz launcher or whatever Samsung call it. I much prefer Sense 4. So the phone will have to be very good to tempt me away from getting another HTC as my next phone. Hopefully a non pentile AMOLED screen and multi core GPU. And can we please try and not let this thread turn into an Apple v Android trolling session.

I hope the build quality improves. I find Samsung handsets a little too plastic / flimsy to the touch - HTC seem to make a better quality handset (of the ones I've had access to, anyway).

yes waiting on this, my desire in now continually running out of memory and buttons are starting to take more than 1 push now, was thinking of the x-one but not sure about the non removable battery, lets see where the S3 goes on this.

I'm going to be looking closely at this.

I still have an iPhone 3GS and I've been waiting for the details on the new iPhone but I'm really tempted to ditch it and try the Galaxy S3.

Not quad core CPU's for apple, plus even the s3's dual core was pretty quick, but this should be a big leap, the s2 was knocked off the best selling list after 11 months at the top, this will be a good mobile set if samsung carry on as they have been doing,
Ant, yes, removable battery is necessary, you can carry a spare, something apple don't let you do!

im on the s2, and i play around with different roms for abit of fun, and i find that they can make alot of difference to batt life.

im on a 4.03 version (ics) rom at the mo. and phone came off charge 10pm last night. wifi turned on all day and med use. batt is now 63% so not bad at all i would say.

i wounder how fast the s3 will be over the s2 and if it is much of a step up?

I'm on 4.03 and my s2 destroys the battery in a few hours. I tried a clean install and while it runs a bit smoother it still goes through the battery a lot quicker than gingerbread.

Galaxy Note here, love it to bits, came from a line of Iphones and wouldnt go back. Removable battery means you can fit a longer life (high capacity) battery which can last a lot more use and abuse.

I upgraded to ICS yesterday, baseband is I1900XXLPR, worth seeing if you can upgrade again, or if you want a different rom, one of the guys at work said his battery has vastly improved over gingerbread using a custom rom

Back to the S3, some nice features on there, some say its similar to what apple did from the 4 to the 4S, I have to disagree, its quite a big jump, the camera, even though its 8mp, 20 straight pictures with a 3.3 frame per second shot, pretty good tbh, ok its still plastic, that keeps the weight down, but samsung need to keep upgrading Kies, its a bit crappy to say the least but the latest version is better than the last one I had on my pc.
Is it an apple beater? well a fair few innovative ideas, not copied from apple i must add, the voice recognition/information feature, well that was on the S2 before apple had siri, and speaktoit was available before that (free I must add), does it make it a game changer?
Tbh, no doubt Jack will make an appearance, I may have to agree with him though its not a massive advancement but what has been done is an advance (much more than the 4-4S), but it will keep apple behind samsung in the sales (like the S2 has for the last 11 months but not April as everyone was waiting for the S3), still it keeps the competition hot which means more advancements and features/functions, plus the dual GPS stand alone units will be good and improved battery life, will go and order mine tomorrow and be rid of the horror that is the 3GS (sorry apple fans, its just not a nice handset, even my 4 is going to my mate).

It depends what you do Ant, id like to be given the option, you just dont get that with Apple which is what I find with alot of Apple stuff, no options, and as im taking up walking, a spare battery is a must tbh, if I use the GPS and camp out, unless I take a solar charger (optional also but its heavier than a spare battery), im not looking at doing more than a days worth (and id need a 4S to be good on a GPS unit as its the only apple phone that has stand alone).

It's not the phone I was hoping it was going to be. I'd have to have a look at the screen, but I don't like the idea of sharing sub pixels. It also looks a little bigger than the One X. On the plus side it has a large battery and an SD slot. Removable storage is not something that bothers me much any more, nor is a removable battery. As long as it lasts a day on one charge.

Larger capacity batteries are a con, more mAh's = bigger physical size. Why would OEM's stick a lower mAh battery in if they could fit one in with more, especially as it's one of the most talked about parts of a phone? Lots of tests on the net show these eBay "gold" batteries to under perform a new OEM battery. I've recently modded my Desire HD to fit a larger battery, my battery cover is now electrical tape

Benchmarks look good, but only very slightly better than the quad core One X, and the dual core One X is almost the same apart from LinPack where the dual core Krait is double the performance.

I'll also have to see what changes they have made to the TouchWiz interface before making my final decision, but it looks like I'll be going for the One X.

I'll swap when the camera is better than apple's

I do 'apps' on iPad now.

Is it cheaper than iPhone though?

Cool

I don't know why people get so excited about the cameras on phones, they are ****e.

Unless there is a change in the laws of physics, they will continue to be ****e too! Good for snaps and convenient, can't deny that, but not for quality.

That aside, it looks very good for spec. I find them a bit big though, but I am must admit, as long as a phone makes calls and texts, that's generally enough for me

You've not been to a festival then, 4-5 days with no access to a charge, spare batteries are essential. But yeah most other places you can plug it in somewhere (car, house etc.).

That said if I was using mine as a GPS for some proper hill walking I think I'd like the reassurance of having a spare fully charged battery in my backpack though a paper map and compass would suffice I guess

I might go and have a look at the S3, I am due for an upgrade shortly or I might even purchase outright but it would have to be a big improvement over the S2 for me to consider getting one.

I found that the tactile feel of the S2 was quite frankly rubbish (I hope at least that the S3 uses better quality materials), how they 'feel' has a lot to do with how well you get along with the handset and I found the S2's battery life to be quite frankly dire and the main reason I sold it on.

So it remains to be seen which I will go for next S3 or iPhone 5 (if it ever makes an apperance).

My S2 doesn't seem that bad. I can get around 60 hours out of single charge, or around 25-30 if I use it a lot. Much better than I ever got from my iPhone (which I generally had to charge twice a day if I actually used it).

The build quality is a little plastic, but as I have a case for mine, I don't care

Totally untouched photo, looks ok to me for a camera phone (Galaxy Note)
