I must be a complete dipstick when it comes to setting up a tiny home network!
Using TCP/IP and manually allocating IP addresses on both machines, they will happily ping each other, and I can get the Win95 machine to find the desktop if I type in its name and find computers, but it reports that the network is unavailable if you try and browse it. I have set all the appropriate zonealarm settings on the desktop - before that it could not even be pinged.
The Win2K desktop can browse the laptop no problems, but nothing the other way.
I have been using various networking sites to assist but still struggling.
Thanks for any help!

Have you allocated shares on your W2K machine?
Select a folder, right click, sharing, make shareable & then browse to it from W95.
Alternatively from the Run box on W95
\\computername\c$ to see if that will open a browser on the C:\ of the W2K.

This is going to sound very old fashion but....
Install Netbeui on both machines (as well as TCP/IP) and it should burst into life.....Win95 has a real problem (If I remember correctly) browsing with IP only unless there is a WINS server available.

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
no... well yes sort of, aslong as you login to the 2k box... doesnt really matter as what then you should be ok, if its permissions then it will say access denied.. Im with Jeff its just a small home network... instead of connecting via netbios name what happens if you try \\192.168.0.1\c$ (<--- that being the ip of the server)
WINS shouldnt really need to be loaded.. its only really when you start spanning subnets you need it... the 2k box will become the master browser as 2k wins pretty much any election... (can be annoying)
I presume you have got the Client for microsoft networks installed... Are they both in the same workgroup (shouldnt matter really)
First thing would be to try netbeui though..
