IE6 Problem

I have recently been experiencing IE6 errors when attempting to download files.
When clicking on a download link, instead of the usual box popping up and asking where I want to download the file, the browser attempts to load the file into a new browser window. I get the following message in the taskbar at the bottom:
Then the screen blanks and I get the following in the address bar:
I assume the file is in the temp internet files folder somewhere, but this is a pain trying to find it all the time, and on some websites, a right-click and save-as is disabled.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can reset my settings? I've tried all the obvious methods - the IE-->tools-->reset web settings, and I've even reinstalled IE6.
