I have an old NEC 486 laptop that i have been trying to set up for a relative to use the net.
It has Win95 on it and seems to run ok but when i try and add a dialup networking service, the program (dll file from what i can tell) crashes. It only has 8 meg of memory and a floopy drive - no CDROM. I have Win95B on CD but cant reinstall it. I would like to stick with Win95.
Can anyone help me out as i am losing the will to live here !!!

have you got the windows 95 cabinet files (all the windows 95 install files) on the laptop HDD? that make life easier when you dont have a cdrom. ways to get those cabinet files to the laptop is using a laplink cable via the parallel port. or worst come to worst, use floppy disk to copy them across! (maybe using winzip disk spanning)
try this...
goto control panel, add/remove programs, (2nd tab) windows setup. highlight communication and click details... if dial-up networking is tick, un-tick it, reboot and go back to communication and tick dial-up networking again.
*hopefully* this will re-install any missing files to enable dial-up networking.

Put the laptop disk in a desktop, wipe it, copy the 95B files to it. Put it back in laptop and do a clean install.
I'll lend you an adapter to fit the 2.5" drive onto a 3.5" cable, if you want one mail me an address.
