Question

Been looking at these two cameras and I'm not sure which to go for.
The 2800 zoom, plus points are that it looks like it would give me the ability to take pictures from a much greater distance compared to the 2600 and it has a LCD screen with a few other nice features such as making 60 second movies and a white filter. But due to its size I am thinking that I wouldn't take it out as much as the 2600 which looks like it would fit into a jacket pocket and not be too bulky compared to the 2800.

If I say what I'm after that might help. I want to be able to take pictures of my family, do some motorsport photography etc and I am thinking that the 2600 is the one to go for even though the 2800 has got a better optical zoom of x6 compared to x3 of the 2600.
Has anyone got some examples of pictures taken at distance and close up with these cameras as I'm finding it hard to make my mind up and also don't wish to buy a bit of kit that will sit in its box collecting dust. Also which one would be easier to use as I have fairly large hands? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

cheers ian

Ian, I've got the Finepix 2400 Zoom.

If you look at my website (profile), all the pics were taken with that. I think the 2600 is it's direct replacement and has the same spec with a redesigned cover and more efficient battery use (2 instead of the 4 req'd on mine).

The only downside is the x3 zoom, which for longer distance shots is a bit restrictive, but for taking snaps of the family or when you're on holiday then I've no complaints.

I don't have farmers hands like you, but neither do I have hairdressers The buttons are pretty compact and it does take a bit of getting used too, but I wouldn't say they're unusable - mine anyway. I'd pop into your local Dixons to get a feel for both of them first.

Stefan

2 of us in the office have 2600s and another gut just bought the 2800.

The Main diffs which arent obvious from the specs...

2600 std compact size. 2800 larger and "dumpier" - personally I didnt feel comfortable with it - suggest you try dixon/pc world etc to see if it feels "right".

Both record movie clips - 2600 has no sound, 2800 has on-board mic.

The viewfinder on the 2600 is pure optical (as per std. compact) - on the 2800 its also digital. This is fine until you get in a low light situation, then you can barely see through the 2800.

I'm not a great photgrapher so there may be differneces in the amount of control you have over exposure etc - me - I just point and shoot - for which the 2600 is perfect.
