XBOX 360 dead with RROD..what to do next
Our xbox 360 just died today, it has been going strong since 2005 so not bad so we got a replacement today, the black 250GB version
Question is : with tons of games loaded onto the hard disk of the old one how do we get them off the disk onto the new xbox ?
Or are they lost for good ?
Cheers

Xbox transfer cable will do that job, i think Argos were doing them reduced for about £8. Dont get an ebay jobbie as its more of a pain and don't even bother wasting your cash on any of them if your console was banned as the saves will not swap over as they appear as corrupted files

You probably could have fixed your old xbox for £4.99. That's what I did when mine died. Little kit from ebay with some nuts and bolts and it makes you wonder how on earth it could work but it did

Might be worth giving MS a ring, mate. My Elite went about a year ago and becuase it was the infamous overheated RROD they said it was a manufacturing fault and as such they would repair it. 7 days later it was back good as new, just kept my hard drive to one side whilst it was being repaired and plugged it back in upon it's return.
Have been VERY impressed with MS customer service I must say!

You can get the old one fixed. If you can find someone who does computer 'repairs', you can get it reflowed.
The eBay way of doing it does work, but not forever. Mine 360 went el bango, so Mr P used a diy kit to fix it. Which worked well for about 4 months then back came the RROD!

I suppose if you just wanted to get the data off it, then the cheaper option will work, if you plan on binning it. However it cost us £15 to get it reflowed, and you could sell it on after you have taken all the data off.

Mine "died", so I took the HD out of the caddy (need a torx driver), and stuck it in my new Xbox - the thin black one. Hven't got around to buying the new-shape caddy yet, but as mine doesn't get moved, it can wait a bit.
Yes I could have fixed it, but as it was a day1 release, it was VERY noisy.
Sold it on the Car Boot yesterday with no controllers (kept those for the new Xbox/PES) for a Tenner

The RROD kits of e-bay are reasonable at £5 and they do work. I did mine about 3 months back and its been fine and I play about 5 to 10 hours a week.
Just make sure you get the surface of the chips clean (lots of alcohol wipes) and the back of the heat syncs (dremmel) and it should be good to go in a couple of hours.

Or one other fix I tried and it worked for RROD, stick a cotton bud in the back of each fan. Switch the xbox on and after about 20 minutes the RROD disappears. It gets that hot it rejoins the dry solder point. I didn't think it would work but it did on mine. I've got an ebay kit waiting to be used if it goes again.
