Ant,

I would not take any chances on memory as MBP's can be pretty fussy.

However, memory really is very cheap. Try this site - it is Crucial themselves, there is a small app to download and it determines the correct memory for your computer and prices it for you. Crucial are one of Apples memory suppliers.

I couldn't believe how cheap it was.

if you go to crucial, there's a little applet that runs on your MBP and the site works out which ram you need.

I put 24GB in my mac pro for 250 quid

I think you will find it's about £40 now lol.

6 months is a lifetime as far as memory prices are concerned

Scan are a very well respected supplier, among enthusiasts and business purchasers alike. I'm sure they wouldn't sell you just any old ****.

As an Apple user, I fully understand you want something reassuringly expensive.

That is cheap. Just ordered 8gb for my Macbook Pro for £40 from Crucial.

As I run W7 in VMWare that should make it a much better experience as I will be able to give it 4gb rather than the 2gb at the moment.

Delivered this morning and just fitted. Doesn't make much difference running in 'MacBook' mode only.

Fire up the W7 VM with my work image and Outlook etc... and it flies along. Memory swapping is now negligable.
