Default iOS 5 Likes and Dislikes

I've been playing with iOS5 for a week or so now and thought I would start some likes and dislikes.

People saying that it is just playing catch-up with Android, need not read any further.

Likes:

iMessage is very good, free and quite quick

Wireless Sync with iTunes is spooky, quick and useful

iCloud with 5gb/data is pretty good

Notifications. I like the way I can pull down the messages from any screen and that I get notified even when playing games / full screen app.

All of the above makes the iPad a bit more useful

Dislikes:

Notifications in the lock screen. Doesn't show as much as it could/should. Go look at LockInfo Apple...

Still no email notification at top of screen, like you get with lockinfo.

I want to customise it too, I don't want stocks in there

The thing that still bugs me most about iOS (trivial to most probably) is the lack of widgets. The home screens are just so boring, I like to be able to see the weather, read e-mails and Facebook/Twitter updates etc.. all from the home screens without having to open an app.

You can customise it to remove stock etc..: go to notifications from settings, select each item and thenyule can switch it off. You can also hit edit and drag them around to change the order.

There is no constant notification at the top of the screen. Although from the same settings screen if you select banner for mail then the top of the screen rolls over to show email as it comes in even if you are doing something full screen.

I have tried both and both work fine. The Windows version is syncing two iPhones and an iPad wirelessly. It does crash occasionally (as in a Windows messages saying the program has stopped responding).

I am probably dreaming, but I hope that I can just install iOS 5 properly tomorrow and not have to do all the settings again for the phones...

You have connected it to the PC with the cable, gone to the properties of the device and ticked 'Sync with this iPad over Wifi' ?

Nice one Steve, I thought I had but just went and checked and the tick box was unticked. Ticked it and applied and all working OK

Wireless sync rocks, no more hunting for cables when I want to add a album.

All we need now is music match

I quite like the camera access as well: Double click the home button from the lock screen and get quick access to the camera and taking a picture with the volume keys feels 'right'.

I'm waiting for the 'find friends' application to see how many divorces it'll cause or at least questions like "Why were you in that hotel for three hours?"

Okay I found something wierd: iTunes keeps starting. I didn't notice before as it was more or less open all the time as I was playing with different phones.

Something about the wireless sync causes it to open by itself. Most odd.

Found some stats on the net that show iOS5 increases benchmark scores for the 3GS significantly. Also a slight improvement on the 4. The 4S though absolutely flys and has been clocked at running around 800MHz, doesn't seem quite as fast as the iPad2 though. I'm guessing it's been held back slightly to increase battery performance. It shows that iOS5 is a well built OS though, shame I still don't like the UI.

Only the GPU, notice how the Java benchmarks are done with an older version of Android, Honeycomb rivals iOS5 there. Ice Cream Sandwich should be better still so a GSII running ICS will probably give better results. Also notice how they don't show integer performance of other devices. That GPU is fecking quick though. Wonder how the Nexus Prime will compare?

It is usually 10am / PST, so 6pm/UK today.

I have no idea if that is right, but that is the time when they have released all other versions of the OS.

How long does it take to download/update? Is it automatic when you connect the phone to the computer and then iTunes?
