Default Windows 7: Gates must be SOOOOOO hard up..........

Bought BRAND NEW 'puter yesterday, Windows 7 64 bit installed.

Turned it on this morning, it has already found, and apparently NEEDS 76 updates

Why the hell does this guy keep rushing out operating systems that are only half finished? 76 patches after one day is ludicrous.........

Yet they release a patch and call it a "Game Changer" and give it a shiney new box.

Apple are marketing genius `s, realising how stupid people are "Ooooh shiney shiney".

Windows 7 has been out a while. It's not from when you bought the computer but from the release date of Windows 7.

I re-installed Windows 7 Ultimate and it took nearly 5 hours to update to the latest patches/updates, I'd rather have 'shiney shiney' that being the case.

Don't get me wrong I like Windows 7 and I think it's a good OS, but it's like a screaming child that needs constant attention.

From what I have noticed Windows7 updates are normally security based.

Unfortunately when you have an OS that is this popular that is what happens.

If your "other" OS's had the footprint and the enticement by the "unwashed", you would experience the same issues. It's logical.

Steve,
Windows 8 will be in the same boat in the future..... no need for security patches yet. No ****** is using it for it to be a target!

Shaun, its only a beefed up Windows 7 ultimate. Even my drivers disk had to run in compatibility mode as the OS wasn't supported

Popularity is not the only reason Windows is a security nightmare, it's getting better every release but its the core that's rotten.

It may not be the only reason, but I would dare to suggest it is probably the biggest single reason.

Combined with a fundementally flawed underlying architecture, yes.

ms just send out the OS, it's the manufacturers that don't give a stuff about updating most recent service packs. after that, they're mostly security patches.

I hate to defend windows 'n all.

macs are slightly better, in that you will get the latest 'service pack'. you still have to download the other, mostly security, patches.

oh yes, give mr gates a break - he's not really involved with ms these days and he's given away billions of dollars. he's also convinced others to give away billions too... apart from sphincter steve jobs. great products, but a selfish billionaire.

Certainly Dell used to release slipstreamed CD's with their later XP machines
ive got quite a selection of Dell OEM CDs from XP thru to XP SP3 heh

and exactly as CrewJ said

If you at least go for the latest SP 1st, it will cut out alot of the individual updates ;/
