iphone, how do you set a ringtone from an MP3 ?
Am i missing something obvious here ?
Its my first iphone so i'm not upto speed with them yet, ive imported some MP3's and i want to set one as a ringtone, i don't see any option to set an MP3 as a ringtone, all i can use at the min is that basic list of pre-installed ringtones and they are naff lol

It's such a hassle to do it I don't bother with custom ring tones any more. I just use the standard ring ring. It's certainly cheaper than buying a Mac.

What you cannot use a mp3 straight onto your phone as a ringtone....crap that...Apple have it wrapped up suckers.
I also know why all the iphone users defend them so much, you would too if you found out it wasn't as good as you thought

I really like the keyboard on these iphone's, its very slick and accurate.
My last phone before this was a HTC Desire, the keyboard on the iphone is certainly better than that.
I'll need to test the iphone out over time to compare it against the HTC, early impressions are good, its very slick and quick.

The keyboard gets better over time using predictive text to enlarge the next key you might press. Not quite as good as being able to drag and drop a ringtone but hey.

Right click the song in itunes that you want to use, click on create aac version, or wav version, basically anything to create a second file of it, it should then appear directly below in itunes.
Right click on the new song that should be just below and click on "get info" or whatever the windows equivalent to that is, click options tab then choose your start and finish times (this will be your ringtone start and finish times, but it cannot exceed 30 seconds) then click ok/apply.
Now on that same new file in itunes right click the song, then show in finder, or show with windows explorer, or whatever windows call it now. the song should then be displayed and highlighted.
Rename it to have .m4r at the end. So if the song its called billie jean, rename it to billie jean.m4r and press enter
This should then convert it to the correct format and it should be in your itunes ringtone folder. if not just click and drag the .m4r file to itunes library and itunes will place it in the appropriate place.
Sync iphone and all should be done.
Please note...May seem long winded but once you have done it a couple of times it will become very easy and quick to do
Also note...Don't have billie jean as your ringtone
