Default apple delivery estimates vs reality?

I want to order an iMac - it states delivery 4-6 weeks.

Can I safely go away for a couple of weeks without it turning up?

it's actually only the SSD that makes it that length of delay.

Without the SSD and maxed out on options, it's still only 4 days.

I'll wait. I'd hate the bottleneck to disappear and then it arrives whilst i am away

am very excited though

You should get an email letting you know when they have dispatched it. Wait for that and get someone to receive it while you are away?

I get all my deliveries sent to work. People there 24/7

Pretty much interweb browsing

Well, I have 8 1tb drives needing a home, so I thought I'd bung in a raid card for some proper raid5.

I ordered the 8 core west mere, but I think I can upgrade to 12 core - just thinking ahead !

At least with a mac pro, if a drive blows, it'll just cost a replacement drive... Or indeed the monitor.

I guess some of me still thinks pc.

browsing on a monster like that

As the mac pro only has 4 bays and one is taken up, you might be better whacking those spare 1TB drives into something like a Drobo or NAS box.
