Mac keeps dropping wireless internet connection
Can somebody please help?
My Mac book drops the wireless broadband connection every 5 minutes, I then have to turn the thing off and then on again to reconnect and then it does it all over again.
It works fine when connected to the router with a cable and my wife's PC laptop works perfectly with the wireless.
So it seems the router is fine and the wireless itself works.
So what is wrong with my Mac??
Thanks

Bit more info required:
1) What exact model of Macbook is it?
2) What exact OS X version are you running
3) Check software update to see if you have any airport updates and install if there are any
4) What type of router is it, and what are your Wi-Fi settings (security type, channel, etc)

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,4
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP5
I have just updated the software to the latest OS which is 10.6.7
The router is a BT Voyager 205 ADSL. It connects to an old Netgear wifi router via a 'home plug'.
The wifi router is not secured and I don't know what channel it operates on.
Thanks again

I had the same issue with my macbook.
I downloaded an program called iStumbler which showed that 5 of my neighbours were using the same wireless channel as myself.
I changed the wireless channel on my router to an unused one and its back to being 100% reliable.
Do try a couple of spare channels though, channel 5 around me is a spare channel but if I use it my signal drops to around 20% due to some interference in the house.

Thanks Coupe, but how do I select a different channel?

Should be in the router settings, have a read of this
I would also recommend enabling security, if only to prevent some neighbour from jumping onto your network and stealing your bandwidth.

Thanks but why is it that my wife's laptop works perfectly?
If there was some problem with the router or other people using the same channel then shouldn't her laptop be affected as well?
