2nd ADSL line: best way to maximise it (cheaply)
We're getting another call package for our other line and it comes with 8Mb ADSL via Opal; its no cheaper not to have it, so why not. We're already with BT for the ADSL on the other line.
Anyhoo bottom line is I have 2 ADSL lines via two providers giving me a "upto" 8Mb service...in reality that is a sync speed of about 6Mb and real world throughput of 4.5Mb.
Now what can I do to get the best out of them?
Bonding them would be ideal, but I guess that requires a subscription to a bonding server to manage the data....or is it possible now to get a dual WAN router that can bond a connection without subscribing to a provider?
Failing that, Load balancing and redundancy: I'd like a recomendation of a router capeable of automatically balancing two WANs (or with two built-in ADSL2+ modems), and can automati in a cally manage a dropped line. Gigabit LAN and Built in VPN would be nice: I use a ReadyNAS for back up so like to use remote admin, and the Gigabit LAN give me overhead on big backup jobs.
Needs to be fairly user freindly as I'm getting pretty rusty in my old age (especially with all the acronyms and vague terminology used in the router menus/user manuals ).
And please, no £10K Cisco routers; its only to network 6 computers in a portakabin

Pretty picture ... http://www.cselimited.co.uk/Blog/?tag=dual-adsl-lines ... and a router that could handle it ... http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor2820.html ... that's actually the one I have (2820n) but only have a single line (BT Infinity ... !!). It does load balancing etc but can't comment on it's effectiveness as I'm too poor to have 2 ADSL connections ...
It also has a Gb port (though my Gb NIC on my PC went t!ts up so I don't use that either ..... Hmmm. Time for a new computer me thinks ....
HTH

PS: I've had the Draytek for several years now and a) it just works and b) they still update the FW for it. I upgraded to the latest rev. before I got the Infinity line installed ( from Sept. 2010).
