Thumbs down itunes help please (new pc)

I have an iphone and ipad and used itunes on my old laptop, decided to sell laptop so backed up itunes onto discs for adding to my next computer..

Just bought a new laptop yesterday and installed itunes, put my restore disc 1 in and box comes up 'restore from disc' click ok.. Then itunes just crashes every time! Nothing at all, I've even tried leaving it for an hour but still says 'not responding' in task manager.

Now, what will happen if I just connect my phone to itunes without the restore being done? Will it just suck my phone dry and wipe it?

I've never used such an unstable program as itunes! I've had it on 4 computers now and I literally dread using it because I know something's going to go wrong.

The new laptop has windows 7 fwiw.

I've tried removing itunes and reinstalling 4 or 5 times, made sure windows is up to date etc. It just hangs every time I click ok to restore from disc.

If you press cancel instead you can see the restore disc on the lhs of itunes and even view everything in it. I tried dragging stuff over to the itunes library on laptop but it's really hit and miss and again will just crash sometimes.

If I connect my phone and it does loose all my songs will I loose my contacts, messages and pictures too?

So if i just plug my phone into itunes (a new bare itunes but logged into my acc) I can just back it up straight away and it'll just copy everything onto itunes anyway? Or just phone stuff (ie all my apps and music will go)

Not sure on the apps but if you have them backed up theyll go straight on again just by dragging and dropping them back into itunes
