Does anyone know the max length of a USB cable ?? I think its around 5 metres but not sure. I have to put a USB device about 8 metres from the PC, so any ideas how i can do it ??
I was thinking of 2 4 metre cables and a hub in the middle. Will this work ?

5m is max cable length for USB1
"Still need to connect something via USB over 5 meters away? The solution proposed by the USB standards body is to use hubs. You can chain five USB peripheral cables and four hubs to give you a 25 meter (about 80 feet) reach.
A more convenient solution is what is called an "Active Extension Cable". This is basically a 5 meter cable with a built in 1-port hub. You can chain four of these plus a single 5 meter USB peripheral cable to give you the 25 meter maximum reach."
