Default HDMI leads ??

Guys needing to buy a 2 or 3 mtr HDMI to HDMI lead to hook my little acer revo to my panasonic th42px70b plasma, looked on ebay and there appears to be loads ranging from relativly cheap to relativly expensive !! question is is there actually much between them in terms off overall difference in picture quality ??

do the gold coloured plug ones actually perform any better ??!!

There is no difference in picture quality, as it is digital. The more expensive ones though, are normally better, but only in terms in how robust they are.

Just make sure it is 'high speed' Cat 2 I think, that can handle 1080p, I think anyway, check this.

Meh!!!

I know with digital you don't need to spend the world on cables.....But with a crap cable the digital signal will resort to error correction at the other end

how about these then? Select 20m length

Having done a few installs using cheap HDMIs, I can't say I recommend them at all. I use QED HDMI-P's myself. Not overly expensive but well shielded and have never thrown up any problems when connecting devices so I stick to them.

It's only when the cable length goes over about 5m when you need to worry about expensive HDMI cables. Having said that. I'd buy decent ones just to be sure. +1 for Mark Grant cables.

I got myself an HDMI autoswitcher from Neet for around 20 quid and it does a great job IF I use profigold HDMI cables, tried it with a couple of cheap HDMI cables bought from game (for the 360) and it doesn't switch properly. Took me a while to figure out it was the cables and not the switcher.

You're bound to say that aren't you? Don't you work for tv retailer?

Nothing wrong with the cheap ones, only over long distances you'll have problems.

Yes, I do but that has no reflection on my opinion as I don't sell products I don't believe in which is why I have a high repeat customer rate. Having spent a good few evenings rewiring customers home cinema systems all because of cheap HDMI leads having very odd syncing issues when run in parallel. One big observation I have made in the past is that Onkyo AV amps hate working with cheap cables whereas some others are so picky.

Surely that is down to the equipment ? My onkyo 607 has problems syncing with a decent cable it works intermittently

But for the majority of users who are just connecting to HD or Full HD screens (or amps) without going to TrueHD audio (etc).... anything above base standard is not required.

My strawberries are dry thanks Im fully aware of different gradings but most now are 1.3a , you only need 1.4 upto yet for 3D.

You plug in a cheap £5 hdmi lead and a £50 hdmi lead and tell the difference with your own eyes and I'll run naked through the Market square

i brought mine from asda £10 faultless and very robust i still cannot understand how someone charge such varying prices for cables it has been the same since scart leads were new on the market in reallity a reasonable price one is just as good as a top of the range one in signal quality just dont buy mega cheap it will more than likely fall apart

def depends on use, also if you have got a 3D telly, thats gonna be the biggest jump in tech that will def required high spec cables.

It would seem odd for it to be down to the equipment if all HDMI's whether they are cheap or expensive where exactly the same? I've just found it more common for Onkyo AV equipment to spit their dummy's out when it came to cheap cables.

Are you sure your 607 isn't suffering from a faulty HDMI board due to overheating? or are you just using one decent HDMI cable and the rest cheap?

Scart leads made a HUGE difference in picture quality. Much Much easier to demostrate the benefits than HDMI leads.

I'm using a decent one from the amp to the tv , it
Could be down the Sony tv syncing issues.it's been like it since day one.

I use my standard hdmi lead that came with the xbox and a decent Lead I got from work for free

If you check the menu's on the Sony TV there may be a setting in relation to HDMI Control or named something similar turn that off. I don't really know Sony TVs that well but Philips screens having syncing issues when running AV equipment if this setting it turned on(and it is as standard turned on).

I bought gold plated HDMI cables from Asda, I have 3 of them now for xbox, virgin HD box and Blue Ray player and I bought a 3 way switcher with gold plated connections from Ebay sent from USA all work fine and I bet it cost me less than £50 for the whole lot

Simply not true but unfortunately because of the lack of effective publicity banded around it leads people to be ill informed.

You don't need HDMI v1.4 for 3D. Even the wiki referenced to in this thread is somewhat misleading and the matrix given is factually incorrect.

SKY boxs and the PS3 are not HDMI v1.4, yet they still provide 3D output.

It is more complicated than just saying is it 3D or not, as the HDMI version and 3D relates to the resolution level and audio format required.

Quick Reply: HDMI leads ??
