Default locked out of windows 7

My daughter had a new laptop recently and has forgotten her log in password.

There is no admin account set up, just hers. Any ideas on how to get into it without a trip top pc world.

Well, you burn a CD, boot it and it asks you what user account you want to reset the password for .... not too technical.

PC World will charge you £40 and probably suggest something stupid like re-installation of windows.

Jamie, standard practice is this.

>Live CD/Extract information/format.

You can ofcourse break the password via another PC and resume normal, but hours of processing power wasted.

How important is the information?

It might look like there are loads of steps but it really isn't difficult. You basically download the file to a PC (current working one you can use) and then burn the file (its an ISO image) to a CD (you can use a free bit of software called Imageburn for this if you don't have anything already, just google it).

This will create a bootable CD.

Pop this CD into the machine which you want to clear the password on then follow the instructions.

Once I had the CD ready (took me a few mins as I was on site and needed to get hold of a blank CD etc) the process took about five mins, much quicker than re-loading your machine!!

P.S. Don't take it to the muppets at PC world, they will probably just format/reload the machine back to factory defaults and rip you off in the process.
