Default Xbox360 fooked

Well my 3year old Elite has finally bit the dust. When I put a game in it freezes when loading. Is this a DVD drive issue or a chipset issue?

Anyone point me in the right direction in order to fix it?

Maybe a dvd drive issue, I had the problem recently when I bought a brand new game it wouldn't show up on the dashboard, said disk error and similar, I bought a lens cleaning disc for a PC from Tesco for £5 and (touch wood) my xbox is working fine again.

I looked into buying a new disc drive and it seems to be £120 just to buy the driver and then it needs to be flashed to work in the xbox so not really worth it IMO.

I would try getting a lens cleaner in there to start with, if the disk drive is fooked then I guess it's probably new xbox time

Very much doubt it as I got this when the Elite originally came out. Will have to dig around as i think i still have the receipt.

The DVD drive does seem a bit on the noisey side James, so possiblely just bin it as she has already agreed to get me a new 250gb one!

Jamz - I think OllieRB5 and UlsterScooby were fixing or modding these things a while back. Might be worth giving them a shout - or trying to get their numbers for someone close to home.

2011 ban amnesty over on SI as of today - if you want to use that to get in touch.

Just checked on Microsofts website and registered by console. Luckily I had 5 days left on my warranty for 3 red rings, so i booked it in for repair.

Ringing them was a joke though, no audio/sound to let you know you are actually in any sort of queue. Gave up after 20mins.
