Default Very pi**ed off

My new Dell Inspiron 17R was delivered yesterday. Tried it last night and when I put a dvd in to play it went black screen and made a terrible noise. Had to switch it off to get it to stop.
Switched back on and message about switching off drivers to protect itself flashed up.
Went to media player and can look at photo's ok but the library has some video in and tried that with the same results.......

Not happy. Will have to ring Dell later when back from work.
