Ok, now I have a 3gs running 4.0 which is my personal phone, the battery needs charging every 24hrs, usual useage, texts, not many phone calls, turned the wifi off, so im thinking "ok, not too bad".
So having talked my boss into getting me an Iphone 4 (32gb of course ), not many apps on it yet, not much done with it yet, just upgraded to 4.2, and I have had it since last friday, they sent it out on thursday, it was on when I received it, took 48hrs for the sim swap (I turned it off for 18 hours), and even though I have not done much with it, its still at 51% battery power
So do I have a faulty Iphone 4 as the battery isnt meant to last this long, or is it 4.2?

Iphone 4 with ocassional browsing, 3g turned off etc 3 days I get out of mine between charging..

It's meant to be better than 3gs, but i have a 4 and had a 3gs before it. They both seems equally crap battery life. All smart phones i have seen are like this. Iphone is one of the better ones i reckon.

A good tip is to close apps that sap battery life. Double tap home and then hold them to close open apps. It makes a good difference but is annoying.
