Launch iPhoto and have a look in the preferences, there should be an option to say what happens when an image devce is attached

If it isn't there then have a look in system preferences, there are options in there that govern what happens when cd and DVD are inserts and I have a feeling there is an option there for cameras

Connect your phone and in iTunes there are tabs to sync with the phone.

Under photos, you can remove the option to sync with iPhoto

woohoo sorted it! you have to go to the applications folder and look for image capture, then go in to it's preferences and theres the option to open iphoto when a camera is connected. change it to don't open and it stops it, sorted at last!!
