Default Wireless dongle for a Dell desktop?

I need one for my lad to replace the 15m cable we have up the stairs across the landing and into his bedroom.

But what sort do I want?

He HAD one, a cheapy, but it stopped working, hence the cable, which I would like gone before I fall over it going to the loo in the dark AGAIN.
TIA

Almost any wireless usb dongle will do ... and they are cheap.

If you want something more expensive, the home plugs are a (faster) solution.

They are the work of the devil ... you plug one into an electrical socket and into your router then another one into another electrical socket somewhere else in the house and then into your device.
