Default Mac Server that wont update

Hello,

I am unable to update one of my XServ's from 10.6.2 to 10.6.4. The update to 10.6.3 didn't work either. The Server pulls it updates from other Server running SUS but I also downloaded the Combi update from Apple itself which didn't work either.

All updates will work will except the OS update.

I have tried as root, turning off all services to no avail. The error just states "cannot install software".

I posted on the apple support forum but only idea was to rebuild which I'd rather aviod if possible.

Mike

Does the system have sufficient space on the system volume to expand the update before it is installed?

Have you tried Disk Utility to check the system volume for errors?

ok, logi g as admin and fire up the installer, have a look under he menus. There should be an option about displaying log info, select the all option to display all the log infor, get the installer to run and it should, when it hits the error give you more info about what is causing the prob

disk space might b the issue but the installer would usually work out if it has enough prior to install and not let you install of there is not enough

if the above does not help then Download the combi update. Check to see if there is a v1.1 for 10.6.4, I know one of the recent vers did have a 1.1

reboot in safe mode ( reboot and hold down shift key and keep it held down until login dialog is displayed) and then login as admin an run the installer and see if it works

Thanks both

dsemuk, yeah plenty of space. I ran a permission repair which fixed quite a few things but still the update wouldn't run

Markus, thanks I'll give this a whirl in our next Maintenance window.
