Question

Hey all i read in the mirror of a isp company called filer loop or something offering broadband for £19.99 a month! It was in tuesdays mirror under kellys I. Trouble is I don't have the paper as someone threw it out. I wanted to look further into this as AOL has put it's price up! and for a little more I could have broadband.

Anyone read it and remember the name as i cannot seem to find anything on the net refering to it?
Anyone any old mirrors hanging about?

Cheers.

EXCLUSIVE: ADSL Access Now Drops Under £20

A new Manchester based Internet company has revealed today that it has broken the £20 price barrier and that it aims to provide the cheapest ADSL product in the UK.

Today sees the introduction of new pricing for ADSL products following BT?s wholesale cuts in February.

Concentrating on the home-user and the small business market, Filar Loop Technologies Ltd claim that it has the financial backing required to offer its self-install USB product for a remarkable £19.99 per month. Currently Freedom2Surf offer a similar product for £22.50 and PIPEX offers their Xtreme Solo product for £23.44 but until now no Internet provider has been able to break the £20 barrier.

Due to the cost and the expected demand, Filar Loop can only guarantee the low price for customers that sign up before the end of the month. Although customers can still benefit from the low prices if they sign-up to a 12 month contract. There is an activation fee of £58.75.

Marketing manager, Brian Speers, commented, ?A number of years ago there was no such thing as a free Internet connection; the market was purely subscription-based. Now we have over 100 narrowband unmetered ISP services. I believe that this year will prove to be a very interesting one for broadband services in the UK.?

He continued, ?Whilst BT announced price cuts to its wholesale ADSL products, which will no doubt attract many Internet users away from the standard dial-up connection, we do not consider their actions to be enough to generate enough interest in the broadband market.?

?Filar Loop will do for the ADSL market what the likes of Freeserve did to the free 0845 market. 2002 is going to be the year of ADSL and we are going to be the leader with the introduction of our £19.99 wires-only product.? Speers concluded.

Don't worry, many of the regulars in the various ADSL newsgroups fell for it as well. Very well worded.

Pipex are apparently good, but are having a few problems at the moment due to the massive number of people going to them.

I'll tell you more on Monday when I get activated

Crypwalk

Just had my BT Broadband activated today, I have had it at work for sometime and decided to get it at home as well, stunning, even quicker at home, probably because there arent 50 pcs all using it!!

I know its £29.99 a month but im sure it will come down a bit more in time.

crypt,

You place your order with them and they start doing the tests and stuff on the line and send you your details and when your activation date is etc.

You need a modem and a microfilter for every point where something is plugged into the phone line, so for example one where your phone is and one where your PC is. If you've got an extention cable, you just plug it into the end where you plug the phone/modem in. You can either buy the modem and microfilter from Pipex at the same time as you order, or buy from elsewhere. The modem is £65- £70 i think, and the router about £10 each.

Then you just set up as they tell you on their web site. Easy.

Crypt, its really easy!

You get a Microfilter for each point that you have a phone plugged into and thats it. As for the router, i have an Asus AAM600EV which i got FREE from work! as it has an ethernet interface as opposed to USB (i'm a purist). 5 minutes configuring that and its been working ever since!

Have a look at http://www.dslsource.co.uk and http://www.solwise.co.uk for routers/modems and microfilters, as the ones Pipex Charge you £10 for can get cheaper elsewhere.

If you have any other questions drop me a mail mate, ian.white@dataflex.com (during work hours)
