I Pod touch problem - Help please
I bought my son an I Pod touch yesterday knowing I would have difficulties uploading it with stuff but he just had to have it. I am useless with computers but he wouldn't listen.
I downloaded the I Tunes Software has instructed to do [which took me 2 hrs].But now I am getting nowhere.
Now the Problems;
1. I connected the i Pod to my laptop and 'F all' happens. The i Pod screen shows a pic of a USB connector pointing to an I Tunes symbol.....I thought I had done this?
2. I cannot do anything with the I pod. It doesnt fuction in anyway other than show the USB connector as described. No menu's at all.
3. When I click on the I tunes Store is says that 'I tunes could not connect to the I tunes store. The network connection has timed out.Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. Then try again.' And yes I am connected to the Internet.
Any ideas other than get a refund?

any anti virus software running?
Try hooking up to Pc via USB
Start Itunes manually and if the ipod does not sync then try doing a full restart by holding down the button on the top and then swiping acroos the screen when the shut down option comes up. The power on again whilst still connected

All the above already considered and checked. Still no joy. 2 days of wasting my time with this thing. It's probably something dead simple.
andys - So the Laptop and I Pod have to 'sync' This ain't happening.

Try turning the iPod on after you have connected to the PC , It still should show in "My Computer" if not in iTunes
But its probably the Anti virus /Firewall stopping iTunes from connecting

Well after hrs of research I think I have sorted it by the following.
1. Go to Start menu
2. Control panel
3. Network and Internet
4. Internet Options
5. Connections tab
6. LAN Settings
7. Uncheck "use a proxy server for your LAN"
God I am thick.

Cant believe I have exactly the same problem just this morning, Years of using the iPod touch with no problems ..Anyway it turns out to be the cable, Soon as I swapped them over things back to normal
So just another thing to check if anyone else as similar problems
