PS3 Media Server..Lag?
I downloaded and installed the PS3 Media Server on my Laptop and when I stream a Blue-Ray film, it hang as the buffer is not catching up..
I have to pause the film for say 15 odd mins then watch maybe 30mins then pause again...rather annoying..
Is this a setting I need change to fix? The Laptop has 3 gb of ram and a 1.8GHz processor

the PS3's wifi seems to be crap for streaming, which is rather annoying as my XBox 360 does it perfectly, I have both
shame as the PS3's interface is better, but I end up using the XBox as it streams better

Try TVersity to see if it makes a difference.
Personally if I try to stream anything large via the Java media server it just does as you describe.
Streaming the same content via TVersity worked fine.
By the way - what router have you got.
I was having wireless streaming issues with small stuff recently.
Turns out the antenna was slightly loose - phone engineer must have disturbed the antenna during a recent visit

The OP doesn't mention using a crossover cable to connect to a router. He has the PS3 connected directly to the laptop using a crossover cable unless I am mistaken, so like I said, why would the crossover be causing a problem?

I use PS3 Media Server occasionally, and I'd say its your laptop that is the problem.
My old pc was a 2.6ghz one and that barely cut it, my new one is a 3.1ghz Dual core, and it never struggles at all. 1.8ghz seems rather lightweight for re-encoding on the fly.
If it's a video type that the PS3 understands, just use something that will allow the PS3 to see the files directly and play them itself, 100mbps connection is fast enough and that will work a treat (most of my streaming is done this way)
