What would be faster for games ? P3650 on a bx or Duron on a VIA k266a board both running geforce3

 

The P3 (of the same speed) would be better as the Durons have less on board cache. You never said what Duron?!

In either case a GF3 is not needed as the CPU can't
make full use of such a powerful gfx card.

 

Opps Duron is running at 1gig, Geforce 3 is underpowered? i dont think so at higher res where frame rate is video card limited

 

DF, I think he means to get the geforce3 running at optimum, your weaker cpu won't be feeding it geometry fast enough.

Running a duron 1Ghz, you are probably running a 'Morgan' core Duron which is the latest revision of the Duron core. A 1Ghz Duron wipes the floor with a PIII-650 CPU.
The BX chipset was absolutly top-notch, but the 266A revision chipset from VIA, when coupled with good DDR RAM, is a far stronger performer.

Thats not true about Durons being slower than P3 due to less on-die cache though. Its common knowledge the Duron runs the same as or slightly better than a P3 at same clock. Its a more efficient cpu. Benchmarks from reputable sites prove this. Ive got a lowly duron-800 with gf2GTS card, n it simply blows away a p3-733 I had in the past. This spec runs all current games in high res, no problem to.

 

i think in games a hi floating point score is best the duron has this. and medal of honor ROCKS
