What's it worth - laptop question
Just wondering what my Dell Inspiron 1720 is worth. 2 years old (just over) and following spec:
17" screen
Core2Duo 2.0 ghz T7250
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
250GB HDD
wireless and ethernet
DVDRW/CDRW
sound
bluetooth
built in webcam
green casing
Win7 Home Premium and Vista Home Premium licenses (dual booted)
Battery = dead as always had it plugged in
Apart from the battery it's in mint condition - as new with no marks/scratches.
Cost me £600 January 2008 plus the cost of the Win7 license so could anyone please give me an opinion of what it might be worth now?

Not a clue, but if you do get anyone interested and a battery is a factor, you can tell them a new one only costs £40

Cheers, had a look for batteries this morning and found one for £33 but you never know how good they will be. i.e. will the £40 one be using better cells than the £33 one or are they all using the same low grade batteries and making different profits for the same thing.

Thanks for the reply however bearing in mind I sold my Mrs Vostro 1520 for £200 (was only £320 new!) with a fraction of the spec and same age it will be more than £200. I was guessing at £350 roughly. Speccing the same on the Dell site that I have comes in at £650+
I will more than likely keep it though and get a new battery and possibly more ram.

tbh keeping it would be your best bet. old laptop market isn't very string. mate buys damaged ones, repairs them and sells them on, even giving pitance in the first place it doesn't make much money

I use the local papers and they seem to do well, would never use ebay. I could have sold the wifes Vostro several times over within a couple of days of advertising at £200. Never thought it would get much interest as it was only just over £300 new but loads of people called up and the first one who came round took it.
I sold an old 2.4ghz p4 box with 1.5gb of ram for £100 and a p3 800mhz with 384mb of ram and an ancient 15" flat screen monitor for £100 in the local papers :Cuckoo You can buy a new Revo for £150.

Thanks, where are you seeing those as I can't see them at all. 1720 isn't an option inthe drop down box when I look at filtering by inspiron model

Cheers but wouldn't sell for less than £350 but will be keeping it more than likely. The T7250 has the rare feature (it seems for it's age) of it handles virtualisation and to get that now you have to go for the new i processors. All the other core2duo cpu's i've been looking at today in the same price bracket aren't VT-x capable.
I think i'll get a 9 cell battery for it. I was only looking at getting something smaller as I have to use it on my lap now when out of my office due to change of furniture in the lounge

Business, vostro range then filter the results by the nb 1720 model in the dropsown list.
If you can't find it I'll post a link tonight. I've ordered a 2.53ghz core2duo, 4gb ram, 512mb nvidia 9600m Gs, 320gb, 7professional 1720 for £440 plus vat which is a bit of a bargain as it is a refurb with full warranty. Went for one with a red cover too as they are faster

I don't think you will get £350 for it, my sister only paid £350 for hers and it has 3ghz, 4gb ram and 500gb hard drive, it's not a Dell its Toshiba but brand new out of the shop with windows 7 and warranty.
