Default Speedtest.net thinks I'm with Carphone warehouse !!

As above really

I've just done a speedtest.net on my broadband and it thinks my IPS is the Carphone warehouse....... again !

blatantly not true but just wondered if there was a utility which would confirm my ISP or does AOL contract out it's Broadband services in the UK ?

Cheers

AOL is Carphone Warehouse

And I bet you're thrilled with that speed

Its a lot better than mine, I'd be ecstatic if I could get that speed.

I get about 3.5 down and 0.35 up.

A bit faster tonight LOL. I never knew about CPW buying AOL UK !!

I wonder if BT can get any better speed out of my line (pingtest says very little noise). Do they send out an engineer to install it as I have heard their phone support is dire.

you are not a BT customer, speak to AOL. you're line is a bit slow.

1. how far from your local exchange do you live
2. do you have any extension sockets
3. do you know which is your main socket
4. is your router plugged in at the main socket.
5. do you know how to log in to your router and check your indicated speed.

Also, if you are using a router try powering down for a few seconds and see if anything happens. Sometimes mine goes below 1 M/b and doing this usually gets the speed back up. Not got a clue why though

Have you looked at what speeds you could be getting on Sam Knows Clicky
Enter your post code in the search
Double click on your address on the map
Type in your house number.

Should give an indication as to what speed you should be getting.

HTH

Mines pretty much as it says on the tin: 10Mb down, 0.5Mb up

If I was getting your speeds and ping times Midlife I'd be threatning them with cancellations.

Hi Shaun

Samknows for my house shows similar to yours ~4Mbps so I reckon you should be looking at speeds very close to that. Did you try taking power off the router for 20 seconds? (If you have one that is)

Certainly looks like we're loosing out in the 'speedtest ***** waving contest'.

50Mb/s
