Default Broadband help please..

The Old boy is currently with Virgin for BB, TV and phone. He has decided that for what he want's he can get it cheaper with Sky tv / BB and BT phone. The problem he's got is that the phone socket is in a cupboard which has no power. His current BB comes throught the virgin tv box and therefore his wireless router has access to power.
I assume that if he has Sky BB then his router will need to be plugged into a phone socket? If so, how does this sound? :-

In his house, the main phone socket has an extension running upstairs to my old bedroom. If i plug the sky router into that, there is the existing virgin ethernet cable that runs from the virgin box downstairs to my old bedroom. So if i plug the sky router into the ethernet cable then that goes into his existing wireless router downstairs where he uses his Lappy then this will work?
Does this make any sense?

Thanks

So does he use the laptop wirelessly? I think the Sky routers are wireless. Would the signal not reach from the old bedroom to downstairs?

Having said that, what you want to do should work fine.

The signal would probably be fine, but when you get those annoying times when the lappy decides it can't see the router and it needs re setting, it would be a pain

yes the sky router is wireless and i'm with them at the minute but the speed is slow, i'm supposed to be on an up to 8mb service yet all the speed tests show it at 1.5mb. when i first got it though i'm sure i was on nearly 6mb so just having a look around at other providers

The old boy only does basic surfing - no downloading so the speed will be fine.
Have a look at BE Broadband - happy with them my self
