if you bought it new you get 12 months free internet wifi,2g,3g and edge so its constant free internet as for email you can get an app or just login on your internet and you can send and recieve from hotmail

I down loaded Mbox mail from the app store. It's better IMO than the standard iPhone email software. As it pushes mail to your phone from the server unlike the iPhone on where you have to log on to check if you have new email. I get an alert like a text when I get a new Email.
The other thing is that I found when using the iPhone software when I deleated an email it deleted it from the phone but not the server so you had to use your pc to log on and delete them again.

ok, the new OS revision on the Iphone allows mails to be sent to your phone automatically on a schedule of your choice from the likes of hotmail, gmail etc etc no thrid party apps are required to achieve this and its a doddle to setup.
Yup she will get free web via 3g/hsdpa and wi-fi access to the "clouds"

she is a bit worried about it being so state of the art,
we out her old sim in and she still gets the free wifi, will try to set up her hotmail.co.uk later on
got to be worth a gobble though i would hope.

Settings for the my hotmail.co.uk account is
Name: Whatever the account is set up for
Address: Full email address
Description: I have the full email address in here as well
Host name: pop3.live.com
Username: Full email address again
Password: The account password
SMTP: smtp.live.com
Works for me, although it doesnt push the same way as my exchange account does but you just open the mail account and it checks. A lot better tan trying to use safari to log in

What's the problem with logging in via Safari on the iPhone? Is it just you have to enter the login name and password every time? I only ask as apart from that it works for me without issue.
One other option would be to setup her gmail account to read her hotmail account, which is how I have it set up, thus you only add in your gmail details but you will have email from hotmail and gmail.
