Question help me buy a new graphics card please

hi all this is my spec so far.

i would like a new graphics card as when playing cod 4 etc the game crashes and says the card is over heating.

so i think it is time for a up grade

(drivers are all up to date)

Windows XP Home
service pack 3

Intel core 2 duo E8400 3.00 GHz cpu

1.98 GB Ram

Radeon X1900 graphics card, with a bigger cooler on it.

I would like to buy second hand to get a better card for the money. I only have a very small budget, so around £50 very max

thanks
ian

the new card needs to be a pci one

Because all decent mobo's now come with a pci-e slot for graphics as its quicker
AGP is seriously old, slow and outdated now.

For your budget, something like this:-
11138-34-20R - 1GB Sapphire HD 4670, PCI-E 2.0(x16), 1746MHz GDDR3, GPU 750MHz, 320Cores, DL DVI-I/ D-Sub/ HDMI - Scan.co.uk

yea not the best choice imo that is an oldish card now, it might struggle with MW2. Depends on your CPU, ram, hdd etc etc as well though.

Hi look for 5770 1GB version these are good and will outperform 8800GTX in some games, but if you don't mind look for 5850,these excellent cards(if you are lucky, you will get this card around £150)

Really? because i used to own an Asrock board that supported Core2Quad and AGP and i assumed a Core2Duo would slide right on in.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...l=775Dual-vsta

AGP and PCI.

ASRock MB are not my favourite Motherboards,if you have old ASUS MB which support just E6600,P4 you will find only PCI-E and DDR2 support(out is few with support DDR1,AGP)

I've seen this MB for while, but this support PCI-E and AGP and now sourcing fast AGP is real problem

I have noticeci get a error pop up every now and then. and when it does the game wont load and it crashes. but if it does not pop up, the game will run.

this is the error code?

error in c:\windows\system32\nvcpl.dll
missing entry : nvstartup

i have done a full virus scan with microsoft security essentials and a full scann with malwarebites and both were ok.

what would you say is causing this?

Take a backup.

Download (don't install yet) latest nvidea drivers

Uninstall current nvidea drivers

Reboot

Try a programme called "driver cleaner" to remove the nvidea & ATI ****e left behind

Reboot

Install latest drivers
