The Greatest Game of All Time - What's Yours?
I would have to say Final Fantasy VII. I would have been about 10/11 when it came out and I was still playing through it again years later. Don't think there's any point where the story gets boring, and you just want to keep playing until you have no real life left.
So what would you say is the greatest game of all time?
This should be interesting as there'll be plenty of classics I've forgotton about!

Grand Theft Auto Vice City - fabulous - and nearly caused me a divorce - missus kept banging on the ceiling in our then house as the sirens drove her mad for hours on end
shame the later ones, despite better graphics, are nowhere near as good to play

Road rash...what a classic! Can't remember if I played that on the Megadrive or game gear?
Vice city was brilliant. GTA 3 was good too, but I agree the rest haven't been up to much. Saying that, the first game on the playstation was great too.
I'm not even that into gaming, I've just had all the sort of major titles when I was growing up. Have a 360 & a PS3 now but hardly touch them!

Through the ages it has been various games (I am old enough to remember PONG coming out); Scramble at Uni!
Console games would be FFVII as said above and FFXII which is a staggering game in its breadth and depth.
Tomb Raider II is a classic.

road rash was only decent on 3DO as was the first NFS.
i think the first game i was really into was (BBC) Elite as a kid. 3DO's first NFS was amazing!
G/f suzy reckons New Super Mario Bros on DS is hers.

The original Half-Life. Absolute masterclass in game design and story telling (except for the alien world bit at the end).
Multiplayer wise, Counterstrike. That game changed online gaming forever.

Sega Rally (Arcade) ...I got to play it again last year, we had a double cabinet at our last co. (Sega) & a couple of us played it every lunch & every evening shaving hundreths off our total times & never tired of it ...played it solid for over 12 months!
Counter Strike (PC) was another ...every lunch for about 3 years!!

For me the first one was Match Day on the spectrum 48k, the first proper football game I ever played and was addicted to it as a kid. A friend then got a Commodore 64 with International Soccer and I was for ever jealous as it was far superior to Match Day on the speccy. Then the next ground breaking one for me was ISS on the PS1 which later developed in to the Pro Evo series. But the biggest break through for me was GT3 on the PS2 with the steering wheel bundle I bought with it. I bought the PS2 purely for that game and it cost me £320 for the console, GT3 and the steering wheel and pedals For me it was like having an arcade driving setup at home and something i'd always wanted since a kid. Simply amazing at the time (for me anyway).
Other big changes for me were moving from the speccy to the Amiga 500 and getting rid of the hideous tape drive and loading times and going to vastly superior graphics. Playing games such as Kick off, Sensible Soccer, F18 Interceptor and Stunt Car Racer which were fantastic. The Amiga cost me £400 and did 4 weeks summer holiday work experience at £100 a week to pay for it.
I still have my Amiga and many of its games, the PS1 with all the games I bought and then my PS2 and Xbox as well which are set up for my kids to play.
Just googled amiga games and you can download them legally (apparently) for free off the web!

I don't think i could ever pick one, if i go back now and replay old games that i considered "the best ever" when i was younger, they generally feel crap and the magic tends to be lost

Not as much time wasted on that as for Duke 3D tho. We used to cancel entire days of lectures for that bad boy. Original Command & Conquer also addictive until we discovered recon bike rapage and the game was lost forever.

Elite was good too - shame there hasn't been a new version of a space fighting / trading game - would be brilliant as an on-line proposition with other people to dog fight with etc.
