Default Help with a webcam.... can anyone host one for me?

Now, I know this should probably be in Computer related but I kinda need this to go out to the masses....

So, I want to set up a webcam, but only for a few hours. Probably 2 hours tops. In reality - we are talking 10 - 15 mins actual time on "air".

However, the cam would need to be accessable by 100+ users at one time, so the server needs to have a good uplink. I am estimating that we will have 50 people, but its always good to have 2x capaxcity!!

So I cant do a direct camera type thing.

Now I have no idea how it works, but I want to push the live video and audio from a good quality webcam onto a 3rd party website.

It may be the case that some bespoke web design is required for this... i.e some kind of password protection would be nice.

Then once the end user is on the site they can sit there and watch the feed.

I am sure there are companies out there who might be able to offer something, but I *need* this to work. Obviously I am willing to pay the going rate for such a service.

Can anyone help?

Who ever provides it, your "uplink" to the server handling the distribution is the weak point.
Getting an upload speed good enough to carry good audio and live video..... Who is your ISP, thats where its all gonna start.

So forget the webdesign, password protecting etc for now. Til you can stream the quality you want to even ONE PC, you are going nowhere.

Set the webcam up, and find one person to stream it to. Go from there.

The simple answer to the U/L from the cam is that it is what it will be on the day. Without giving specifics out the cam will be in the middle of nowhere!!
I am fairly sure I can get enough U/L to push a reasonable size resolution with mono sound. TBH thats all it will need, the quality is not my top priority, but making sure its live (or there abouts) is.

Maybe someone can do something where its buffered onto the server for a few seconds, then is put out "re-live" so to speak with maybe 5 second delay?

lol are you going to a sporting event and wanting to share it live and for free with others by any chance.

If you are using mobile internet, the chance of getting a decent upload speed for anwhere near decent resolution is gonna be hit and miss. Prob more miss than hit.

To me I dont think you are gonna manage anywhere near what you want. But wish you luck getting it sorted.

Nope nothing to do with sports, a personal family only type thing.

And I would not even consider using 3G, it will be one long Cat5 to my laptop off an ADSL link!!! Hence I have no idea what U/L I will actually get!!!

Stickam - The Live Community, Live Streaming Video

YouTuber's use it a lot for live feeds. You can have unlimited viewers, create passworded "rooms" etc and embed it on your own site.

What did you think I meant then?

Anyway, unless each individual viewer is connecting to your PC, which isnt the way to do it: youll only need to send up one signal, with everyone else connecting to the server.

3g upload is probably directly comparable to that of the ADSL max

In terms of raw speed, maybe, but latency is a different story. You'll see/hear a lot of jitter on GPRS/2G/3G compared to ADSL.

Sure, but I wont be in 3G coverage. I wont even be in the UK for the event.

Simon - I was talking about the sex session commnet

Its looking like stickam.com might actually do the trick in terms of video.... I will have to have a play with it and see what happens.

In the mean time if anyone has a server that I can use... feel free to e-mail me. It would be nice to have a bespoke page for the event. Cheers.
