Right ive bought a router which is sharing my broadband between to Pcs

Pc1 is running windows XP Pro
simon is running Windows 2k Pro

I wanna share hard drives files etc multiplayer games

How can i achieve this?

both pcs connect to the router via Patch cable n fast ethernet cards

xp has settings for home networking, where are you do is go through the wizard, answer a few questions and it will create a boot disk for use on all other formats so they can see each other.....
Have grabbed this from the msn site, hope its of use for you.

Configuring all of your computers to share one Internet connection.
Naming each computer.
Automatically sharing the Shared Files folder with the computers on the network.
Automatically sharing printers that are connected to computers on the network.
Installing a firewall.
Installing network bridging components.
Installing Internet Connection Sharing Discovery and Control components.
Run Network Setup Wizard on the Host
You must run Network Setup Wizard on the Windows XP ICS host computer first.

To run the Network Setup Wizard on a host computer

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Set up or change your home or small office network.
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen. Designate this computer (the host) as the one sharing its Internet connection.

Run Network Setup Wizard on the Clients
After running the wizard on your ICS host computer, run it on the client computers by performing the following steps:

Run Network Setup Wizard from a Floppy Disk
If you do not own a Windows XP CD-ROM, you can copy Network Setup Wizard onto a floppy disk while running the wizard on the ICS host computer. Then use the floppy disk to run the wizard on the client computers. The floppy disk is created when you run Network Setup Wizard.

If you ran Network Setup Wizard and did not create a floppy disk, you’ll need to run the wizard again to create the floppy disk. While running the wizard, make sure you use the same settings as when you ran the wizard the first time.

To run the Network Setup Wizard from a floppy disk

Insert the network setup disk into the computer you want to network.
Double-click My Computer.
Double-click 3½ Floppy (A.
Double-click netsetup.exe.

Just make sure the two PC's can ping each other (ipconfig from a DOS window will give you their IP addresses - if they're on different subnets then maybe your router/firewall needs configuring too), make sure a directory is shared on each of the machines and then from Windows Explorer map a drive to the IP address.

dowser - from that comment one assumes you havent tried connecting pcs to another XP box - its not straighforward and XP seems to have a mind of its own when trying to communicate with other OS's. A ping test proves basic ip connectivity by sending and replaying to an icmp packet.

I helped a friend at work set up xp box on adsl modem and an me box to share that adsl connection, we went through the above wizard and it went straight in hunky dory.

The XP wizard isnt compatable with 2k Pro

I`ve found that with XP it either works or it dont.

First time i tried it took hours to get it to work.Second time it took minutes

P1Fanatic - er, right..only XP I've seen is in German What are the problems? It's still a netbios connection & as long as print/file sharing is on it should be easy, no? Does nbtstat work OK? Interesting.
