OoooOOOoo
Been waiting for this, i thought dirt was average, loved grid (bought it twice and just replaying it now on the pc)
Tooooooo many decent games coming out at the moment and this fecking recession has crippled my "game funds" down to pretty much nothing
Will fire up the demo later on and see what the crack is

Glad you folks are enjoying it.
Some Subaru facts from the audio dept.
The Scooby used for Ken's car doughnuting in the front end video is actually an imported '99 classic - pretty hard to record a doughnut though And in the full game we recorded a couple of US rally spec STi's and an N/A. Also using, in part, a recording of the 2001 WRC from Prodrive - all mixed together to make slightly different sounding cars.
We've got a completely new engine audio system for DiRT2 which I pushed heavily for after starting half way through GRID's development. I think (hope) the improvements to the engine sounds in general are really obvious
Hope the community approve

Downloaded it from PSN at the weekend. Decent graphics and was pretty cool multiplayer. Played the event with the Eclipse and managed 3rd from 8 on my one and only attempt. Was chuffed until I saw first place was 20 secs faster - ouch!

Why on a Colin McRae game who's origins were EEC type rallying do we not get at least one part of that in the demo?! Yes it's good to have a bit of variety but I was really disappointed we don't get to try traditional rallying.
The graphics and sound are very good but it's farr too Americanised for me. Why on earth do we need Travis talking to us whilst racing?

That said, I was impressed with the demo, an order of magnitude better than Dirt, was dire, IMO.

Just tried the demo - thought it looked a played really nicely. Big pat on the back to Codies.
Would agree with the comments that it's all a bit too Americanised for me though. I take it the WRC licence has gone to Digital Polyphony and GT5 ?

I want a WRC game with proper bloody rallying and leave the redneck racing to the rednecks over the pond, hardly of any interest to motor sport fans in Europe. My 4 year old son liked it though

I don't think theres a big enough market for a 'proper' rally game. Anyway the WRC is pretty rubbish nowdays. I can't remember the last time I watched it.
The rally section in Dirt 2 is a bit like Rallysport Challenge on the original Xbox.

Glad most of you like it ...& as stated above the numbers just aren't out there to justify/fund a proper 'bobble hat' WRC racer

WRC4 on the PS2 is one of the best driving games i've played and there has not been a next gen WRC game that is similar. SEGA Rally was appalling. I would have thought a WRC style game (to the same quality as WRC4 on the ps2) on next gen would be a big seller if done properly?
Why is the market better for the way Dirt2 has been done, because it is aimed at the USA market with USA style motorsport in the game? I assume that my thinking of the market being there only applies to the UK and possibly Europe for a WRC hit but across the pond it wouldn't sell at all and the UK market/Europe doesn't justify a game if it's not big in the USA which WRC I guess wouldn't be?

You'd be suprised there Bravo, there is a lot of WRC fans from America. The people who have known the GT series from the start, say they want Polyphony D to base the rallying on RBR (Richard Burns Rally), because it's the benchmark to raise the heavy bar from.

The problem with WRC (& all motor sport releases to a certain extent) is that the demographic age of the average 'fan' is 40+ ...this is a bit at odds with average gamer age of 18-24 ...hence why a true motor sport racer struggles to sell more than 500,000 units & hence why Dirt2 is 'americanised'
But it's not just racing games that are trying to bridge this gap ...expect changes to actual WRC & F1 too

Here's Gametrailers.com american 6 minute video review of Dirt 2:
DiRT 2 Video Game, Review | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com
I've haven't got enough time to play all these great cars games at the moment, just got Supercars Challenge, and with Dirt, Shift, GT PSP, and GT5 just around the corner I'll have to choose my time carefully not to wind up the misses lol.
