Wink

Methinks I'd try changing IRQ's on the soundcard at least...

Thanks. Acceleration setting made no diff. IRQ - could not find a way to change in W2K. Bought SB PCI 128 for £17 and works perfectly now and the quality is considerably better too - I can kick *** broadband style and at least beat some 56kers at UT now.

Just got Pipex ADSL which is very good except for one thing. When the Speedtouch USB is plugged into the computer the sound crackles at high output. Tried all the latest speedtouch, Via 4 in 1 driver, PCI latency fix, USB fix, latest sound drivers, have latest Win2k updates all to no avail.

It is a Jetway 663ASPRO (Via KT133) motherboard with onboard AC97 sound with a 1.3 Athlon, Win 2K SP2. No change in the volume or acceleration rate stops the noise.

Unplugging the USB modem cures it.

The modem, graphics card and sound all share IRQ 11 as set by Win2k. There are no conflicts. I can't find anything sensible by searching google, newsgroups, VIA site, Alcatel site, and am thoroughly stuck.

I might need a separate soundcard, but it works fine until I plug in the USB.

A USB scanner works fine.

Please any help appreciated!

Cool

Run DXDIAG, goto the sound tab, and knock the acceleration down until the crackle stops.
