Default New Laptop Required - £350 or less

I need to get a new laptop for a friend with a £350 budget, but I'm lost on the processor specs / ratings etc after taking my eye off the ball for the past few years.

Anyone recommend a good laptop for this budget.. it's gong to be used by a teenager wanting surfing and bits of photo editing etc, plus school and home work...

They have no end of problems with the current Acer so are keen to avoid them. Failing that, how easy is it to replace a motherboard in a laptop? DIY job? (Bearing in mind I've built a few desktop systems in the past.

dont get to hung up on specs, the case and chassis quality is very important on a lappy. Sony Vaio gets my vote

We use Hp / Compaq stuff at work and it's pretty robust, a lot better than the Dell kit I use in Newcastle.

I have 2 HP laptops (one bought new and one second hand) plus an HP desktop...........mix that in with 3 kids (13,11 and 4) they seem to survive.

The one I'm on at the moment is an HP pavillion
